EANTC Validates Cisco's Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Infrastructure

October 2015

For the second time in 2015, EANTC was asked by Light Reading to visit Cisco's lab in California to independently validate one of their hottest solutions. Naturally, we agreed and were curiousely looking forward to another exciting test at the forefront of our industry.

This time, our engineers examined Cisco's Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Infrastructure. The test plan and tests were exhaustively and the actual execution took more than a week.

The results were compiled in a report, consisting of two parts, that gives an excellent overview of Cisco's NFVI and an in-depth performance evaluation of Cisco's virtual switch technology. We also examined Carrier-grade high availability and reliability. Furthermore, one focus of the test was on the integration, features and performance of two key applications - virtualized Video Processing (V2P) and virtual EPC (evolved packet core).
